Sound Mapping: An auditory exploration of nature
Join us at the Houston Botanic Garden in October!
Using our senses, we can observe, engage with, and internalize the healing properties of nature. As we tune into the symphony of plants, wildlife, water, and wind, our attention shifts from stress to soft fascination, while our bodies embrace the stillness, our muscles loosen, and our breathing slows down. How does nature sound when we ground ourselves and listen?
In this session, we will explore the Houston Botanic Garden through sound mapping in an effort to reduce stress and reconnect with nature. As a group, we will gather in unique locations around the Garden and learn how to create sound maps. We will then work independently to create unique sound maps, compare locations, and discuss our experiences. We will also have the opportunity to use the Plant Wave machine, which converts electrical signals within the vascular tissue of plants into music. At the end of the experience, all participants will take their sound maps home.
