Meet Philippa

Owner & Founder

My journey into horticultural therapy began over a decade ago after receiving my permaculture design certification and volunteering at a local community garden. While growing, harvesting, and distributing organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs to the community, I witnessed the positive effect gardening had not only on my own well-being, but of those who frequently volunteered and visited the garden.

I have spent my career merging experience with ecological restoration, horticulture, and teaching with a passion for holistic well being. My professional path has led me from founding Gulf Coast Ecological Designs, where I transform urban lawns into native prairies, to serving as the Director of Horticultural Therapy at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. I hold a B.A. in Sustainable Development from the University of Edinburgh, an M.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Arizona, and a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy from the University of Florida.

During my four years in Tucson, I designed and implemented vocational and wellness programs for a diverse range of participants, including veterans with visual impairments, high school youth with learning disabilities, justice-impacted adults in reentry programs, and senior citizens and adults with developmental disabilities.

My approach uses hands-on activities that are intentionally designed to cultivate creativity, connection, reflection, and growth. I am excited to reconnect with Houston and bring horticultural therapy programs into our community!
